April 19, 2024There’s literally zero point to reading reviews - this is a molecule-type fragrance that will smell different on everyone. No, but really - not in the way that all perfumes smell a little diff on everyone, this is like, VERY drastically different depending on your unique chemistry.
On me, it smells like the Pacific Northwest, mixed with my favorite T-shirt, mixed with good sex, mixed with terracotta if terracotta was a scent and not a color, mixed with a touch of high end salon conditioner (but after it’s been in your hair for a day).
It’s incredible on me, unbeatable, like a true signature scent. I hope you have a similar reaction to it, because it’d be a shame to miss out on this kinda fragrance experience.
Keep in mind some folks are nose blind to this molecule (cetalox) and won’t smell anything. I’m guessing those are the reviews that complain it smells like rubbing alcohol. I truly pray that isn’t you, because this is a transcendental experience more than a perfume. (Jk. But it is fantastic).
Alsoooo… try layering it with Nemat Amber Oil. *SHIVERS IN ITS SO GOOD*
It's an OK basic amber

October 18, 2024This is a single fragrance note - Ambroxan - in perfumer's alcohol. If you loved this, you could buy both ingredients cheaply and mix them yourself (just like the Iso E super version), and to be honest it smells exactly like that to me. A straight up amber note (usually used as a heart or base note), with no brighter top notes or subtle nuances. It stays exactly the same, as there is no other ingredient to vary it. I love a good amber, but would say this is best layered with other fragrances (or even essential oils), ideally something that needs a bit more hearty or structure. Synthetic notes like this have good longevity when paired with other notes or fragrances, but tend to seem to be short-lived on their own as the nose quickly becomes saturated with the one molecule and starts no longer being able to perceive it. I should add I have the smallest size spray and it doused my wrist with a single squirt, so worth being cautious the first time you use it, (It is also of course a very expensive way to buy a single fragrance chemical).
A polarizing experience

December 21, 2024For context, one of my favorite fragrances is Lake & Skye's 11 11. A similar concept, it seeks to emulate the skin's natural warmth and create a clean, fresh scent. I figured I would be a prime candidate to like something like this. The initial scent was overwhelming to me - the first impression had a very strong bitterness/acidity to it that I didn't love. I kept it on, and within a few hours it had mellowed out to something softer, muskier, and more skin-like. Infinitely better than the first waft. But I want to love a perfume the whole way through, from first sniff to the lingering residuals 6 hrs later. Lake & Skye 11 11 is that for me. So I don't think this is worth it. If you want something more androgynous than Lake & Skye 11 11 this might appeal. But that first sniff is just too off-putting for me to deal with.

November 15, 2023"Perfume but not perfume." This is the introduction of the perfume version crafted by Romano Ricci - Founder and perfumer of Juliette Has A Gun. Robert is the nephew of Nina Ricci, a very familiar name in the perfume world; As an Ambroxan fan, this scent quickly became the DNA fragrance of Juliette Has A Gun. Women's perfume Not A Perfume EDP couldn't have a more strange name. Not A Perfume is made up of a single ingredient, Cetalux or Ambroxan (C18H28O), a chemical compound of ambergris. The structure of Cetalux according to Robert is the smell of dark amber, with wood, a bit of soft, dense Vanilla (often used as a base scent). Not A Perfume has almost no scent, but it will catalyze body odor from which the scent comes to life depending on the person. The nature of this scent is reminiscent of Iso E Super in Another 13 or in Molecule 01. Completely crystallized from 100% ambroxan, with a comfortable dosage from the manufacturer, bringing a creative experience to users. Right from the first spray, the thin mist stirs the nostrils with a strong and slightly greasy scent of alcohol. However, as soon as the alcohol layer evaporates, leaving on the skin a thin layer of dew, a soft, pure and creamy scent. This is a minimalist, uncomplicated scent that radiates quite a distance but does not overwhelm the person on the other side. Not A Perfume is almost odorless, sprayed on the skin like... water. The more you try to smell, the more deaf you become, and when you forget that you have applied perfume, it sneaks into your sense of smell. Not A Perfume will come to life gently and give off whatever smell depends on your constitution. You can also use Not A Perfume as a primer under other scents to help make the scent you like thicker and stick better. Typical scent: Ambergris, Cetalox Incense
